Vancouver Island, known for its laid-back characteristic
Vancouver
Island, known for its laid-back artistic culture, stunning coastal
scenery and year-round blanket of flowers, is separated from the western
mainland of British Columbia by the Strait of Georgia.
This region is a paradise of pristine beaches and lush emerald
rainforests, pounded by the Pacific Ocean. It is home to various plants
and animals, the majestic snow-capped Olympic mountains and glistening
bays, rivers and lakes. The varied ecosystem includes farmland, vineyards
and wildflower-strewn meadows - allowing its visitors the luxury, variety
and adventure of having the opportunity to ski and play golf in the same
day.
The picturesque capital, Victoria, at the southern tip of the island,
offers a snapshot of Britain with its historic parliament, narrow streets
dotted with cafés, pubs and colorful gardens and boats floating lazily
in the sparkling harbor. There is an abundance of sights to experience
here, including the internationally acclaimed Butchart botanical gardens,
which hold more than one million plants. Each garden area has a
designated theme such as roses, Japanese gardens or Italian gardens, and
all are artistically planted. They are particularly spectacular when
viewed during an outdoor concert on summer evenings, illuminated by
colored lights.
The fishing village of Tolfino, located on Clayoquot Sound, is a centre
for ecotourism. The sandy beaches south of the town are the main
attraction of the area, along with whale watching and surfing.
Vancouver Island is truly a remarkable place with plenty to keep you
occupied, and entranced, during your entire visit.
